Here, foreign goods can be stored and/or processed duty-free until moved into the U.S. marketplace. Or in the case of re-export,   raw materials can be imported, converted to other products, and exported without a duty obligation.

• The storage of imported inventories to postpone import duties and excise taxes until needed.
• The altering of imported goods to conform to U.S. standards before entry into U.S. customs territory.
• The repackaging or reworking of imported materials.
• The possibility of obtaining privileged status of materials, thereby lowering import duties and taxes.
